Squeezing in under the wire as the curtain was falling Sunday at the Toronto International Film Festival, “Passion Play,” starring Mickey Rourke, sold to Image Entertainment.
Written and directed by Mitch Glazer, the film stars Rourke as a jazz trumpeter who falls in love with a woman (Megan Fox) who sprouts wings. Bill Murray co-stars.
Image took U.S. rights in a deal, which closed Sunday and is valued at more than seven figures. Entertainment One will distribute in Canada.
Daniel Dubiecki and Megan Ellison produced the film, with Rebecca Wang as exec producer. ICM, which reps Glazer, Rourke and Fox, handled the sale.
Image will release “Passion” theatrically, although release dates haven’t yet been determined.
Megan was spotted at Toronto Pearson Airport yesterday (September 9) with husband Brian Austin Green and step son, Kassius. She is in Toronto for this years Toronto International Film Festival which is premiering her new movie ‘Passion Play’ with Mickey Rourke and Bill Murray tonight at Ryerson Theatre.
A new picture from “Passion Play” has been released ahead of its premiere at the 35th Annual Toronto International Film Festival. Though it still focuses on two lead stars, Megan Fox and Mickey Rourke, the shot manages to give the first look at the major female character with her wings while she is displayed in a room with a big window.
In the film, the “Jennifer’s Body” babe portrays Lily, a slender beauty with wings who is part of a carnival. “She has wings, so she was sort of an oddity trapped in a carnival act,” Rourke has said about Fox’s character. “She’s been a prisoner her whole life, and she has no understanding of trust. She’s very vulnerable and delicate.”
Rourke, meanwhile, will be seen as a troubled trumpet player named Nate who finds redemption after saving Lily from a gangster Happy Shannon. Bill Murray takes the antagonist role which was initially supposed to be tackled by Toby Kebbell.
“Bill Murray isn’t your typical scary, spooky guy, and there’s something very unnerving about a guy with a sort of off-the-wall sense of delivery,” Rourke gushed on his co-star. “It’s very unexpected. Some of your worst gangsters are guys who were very low-key. I kind of like the fact that Mitch went against the grain and didn’t use a Hollywood stereotype.”
“Passion Play” is directed and written by Mitch Glazer with Daniel Dubiecki, Megan Ellison and Jonah M. Hirsch on the board of producers. This drama is expected to be picked up for U.S. distribution at upcoming Toronto Film Festival which will start September 9 until date 19 of the same month.
Mickey Rourke is convinced Megan Fox is unfairly criticized over her acting skills “because she’s beautiful”.
The Wrestler star has teamed up with the 23 year old for new movie Passion Play, and the actor admits he has been astounded by Fox’s talent.
And Rourke is adamant the Transformers star is a clean-living, promising actress who is not given the recognition she deserves because of her good looks.
Alongside her co-star Mickey Rourke, Megan Fox was spotted filming a scene for new upcoming movie ‘Passion Plays’. Megan is reportedly playing a circus freak with angel-like wings growing out of her back and whom is saved by a trumpet player from a ruthless gangster. If you live in Albuquerque, New Mexico and you know where Liu’s Chinese Restaurant near Old Town is then maybe you will get to see Megan and Mickey filming scenes there. According to krqe.com they choose to film scenes at Liu’s Restaurant because the building looks like it was made in the 50’s or 60’s.
I’ll be updating our gallery soon with more pictures on set so stay tuned.
