Word spread faster than the L.A. wildfires on what was being treated as a casting coup. Current pop culture vixen Megan Fox was “this close” to being signed as the new Catwoman in Christopher Nolan’s third “Batman” installment. Guess what? It wasn’t true after all. It was just another example of this current media existence ruled by conjecture released at the push of a button.

The item, which first appeared on August 26th in the infamous Brit-tabloid The Sun, was given key placement in its “Gordon Smart’s Bizarre” section. Given the speed of its spin around the world, it would take the better part of a day before Warner Brothers could even squash what was nothing more than a rumor.

“It’s rumor. It’s not true,” a source at Warner Bros. told Access Hollywood. “There is no script. There is no project to be cast in.”

Fox’s publicity team then told E! Online that “Megan is a huge fan of the Batman movies and of director Christopher Nolan but these discussions have not taken place.”

While a new “Batman” is inevitable, when the time comes to report something definite and real, chances are a column in the Sun already known for fabricating the fab won’t have the exclusive. So goes life in a digital age.
